Ian is the Principal and Founder of Santa Barbara Actuaries. His primary job responsibilities include strategic management, academic and professional research and publication, outcomes evaluation, and senior review of client deliverables.

Ian has extensive experience in care management program operations and evaluation. He has published about 50 peer-reviewed studies of care management program outcomes and associated predictive models.

Ian founded Solucia Consulting (now SCIO) in 1998 and was President of the company for 12 years. After leaving SCIO, he led Clinical Outcomes and Analytics at Walgreens. Ian is concurrently a Professor at UCSB.

He is the author of Healthcare Risk Adjustment and Predictive Modeling and Managing and Evaluating Healthcare Intervention Programs (Actex Publications).

Ian has been a member of numerous Boards of Directors including the Massachusetts Health Insurance Connector Authority and the Society of Actuaries. Internationally, he has advised the National Health Service (England) and the Ministerio de Salud (Colombia).
